Challenge

The McDonald Co. R-I School District moved forward with its ongoing commitment to high quality educational environments with its third project with CTS. This project phase focused on the District’s program to properly maintain, improve and enhance facilities and systems.

An additional aspect of the project addressed student and staff safety both at the school facilities and on the buses. Crime and Vandalism – and the fear they foster – are problems facing school populations throughout everywhere. While better, more secure buildings and transportation programs cannot solve these problems alone, they can be powerful factors in helping reduce crime and other anti-social behaviors.

Project Overview

CTS developed the scope of the project to accomplish the ongoing improvements to the District utilizing performance contracting which allowed the annual energy, operational and maintenance costs savings to be used to fund the improvements. The project included:

  • Roofing system replacements at the High School, Anderson Elementary and Pineville Elementary Schools with energy efficient white PTO roofing membrane
  • Door and window retrofits at the High School
  • New District wide state of the art hybrid surveillance system
  • Bus video camera systems

Project Results

The District has had immediate positive results with the bus camera system. Following a bus accident in which neither the driver nor any students were injured, a student’s family came forward claiming injury to the student. Review of the archived tapes clearly revealed that the student had in no way been injured as a result of the accident and the claim was unwarranted. If this video had not been available, a long and costly legal situation would have been likely.
